Is there an option to set "last read" aka "message pointer date"
in Synchronet? (An RG type of feature that lets users set a date
for messages to be considered "new" so they don't have to scroll
    through ancient messages.)

yep synchronet has that. i even wrote a script that asks my users if they want to catch up.

If so, can that feature be utilized via the web interface?

you sort by date. have you looked at the web interface?

hated the stock Synchronet boards, but I'm more interested in a good

now we have tons of stock mystic boards.
