I notice a lot of messages from the windows side of my BBS letting me know that
sexyz has stopped working during downloads from my BBS. Is there a fix for this
or a better client? I do use long file names on some of the files is that a
problem for synchronet using sexyz protocol?

I did more testing and sexyz hangs up on the larger files only. The web side of
the bbs handles everything perfectly. Sexyz stops working and stalls out a
third of the way through a download on larger files on the telnet. It appears
it fails every time on files over 200 mb. Is there a size limit for telnet
downloads on sexyz? The biggest file I have uploaded to the bbs on telnet and
sexyz was 1.5 go no problems, just cannot download it back from the bbs. Web
side of the bbs works beautifully on all downloads of large files.

The only known size limit with SEZYZ is with ZMODEM transfers and files > 2GB in size. Files over 200 MB should be no problem.

x y z through sexyz gives a windows message sexyz has encountered a problem
about 1/3 to 1/5 through downloading large files (200mb and up) from the bbs. I
can send 'huge' files with zmodem to the BBS uploading to bbs with no problems
using sexyz. maybe i need a newer version of sexyz? I am running 3.19b. I am
using a 10 tb seagate usb external drive to store the large files on. Could usb
to the synchronet be the problem in downloading from the BBS? It seems to run
great. a new drive.

3.19b is not a version of SEXYZ. The very latest version of SEXYZ is v3.0. Double check your version and upgrade.

I am using sexyz 3.0. I am running synchronet 3.19b. I will try reinstalling
sexyz from the archive zip. If that doesn't work i will assume it's a
failure with my setup and try another zmodem program . Thanks for all the
help,sometimes things just don't work.

Okay, good. There have have multiple changes since SEXYZ was given the version number 3.0. I suggest you get/use a recent build of SEXYZ v3.0 for Win32.

SEXYZ is an external utility, not technically "part of" Synchronet, so the version of SEXYZ is separate from the version of Synchronet that you use/run.

You can get the latest build of sexyz.exe for Win32 from a couple of places, one of which is sbbs_dev.zip that's built daily. You know how to find/download that file?

I really hope that's not the square we land on.

I just downloaded a couple several-hundred MB files from Vertrauen using ZMODEM and sexyz for Linux and Win32 to send the files (SyncTERM v1.2b receiving). Worked perfect, so I suspect what you're describing is a bug that's already been fixed. But if it is not, I hope you'll continue to help me/us understand what is different about your system or the files your downloading that's causing SEXYZ for Win32 to crash. Let's get it fixed.

How's sexyz 3.0 working for you? I updated my 3.0 with a fresh 3.0 and still
have the large files download error. Uploading was never a problem. Just
downloading fails early to half way through the process. Trying to find other
download external to see if problem is consistent.

Tried a 250MB upload and download using sexyz 3.0 and netrunner without any
problems. This is not on a synchronet BBS. I did notice that my board
reported no files transfered due to the errorlevel, I'd guess.

Have you tried downloading large files from Vertrauen? vert.synchro.net is running SEXYZ for Win32 and has large files that seem to download via ZMODEM just fine.

I don't think you're going to find a lot of success with that approach (on Windows). SEXYZ is one of the only socket I/O based X/Y/ZMODEM file transfer drivers for Windows. Your other options are (all or just msotly) going to be 16-bit programst that either require a FOSSIL driver (so they would work with Synchronet, so long as you already have 16-bit programs working) or direct COM/UART I/O (which could possibly also work with Synchronet for Windows). In any case, I wouldn't expect those other programs to fail in exactly the same way.

Most likely, the issue you're encountering is a bug in SEXYZ. The question is: is it an old/already-fixed bug, new or current bug? Until I understand exactly what revision of sexyz.exe v3.0 you're using, I can't guess.

Assuming, you are actually running the latest and greatest sexyz.exe (master/24933c806) and the problem is still occurring, the next step would be to enable debug level log output in your exec/sexyz.ini file and then run a Windows debug output capture utility (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/debugview)
and send the "SEXPOTS:" lines that were logged shorter before the program crashed.

If I can reproduce it myself, I can fix it easily. So far, I have not been able to. Short of being able to reproduce it myself, I will need more details from you in order try to root-cause and resolve it.

Netrunner. My system did report that 0 files were transferred, but I'm
pretty sure that was because the dszlog environment variable wasn't set.

I will give it a try soon. Thank you. Not feeling so good today. I have not
been at computer so much. I extracted version 3.0 sexyz. From the zip for
synchronet 3.19b. I will check the version tomorrow. I have uploaded 2 gb file
to bbs no errors using sexyz in 8k mode and standard zmodem mode. It's just
that anything over 30mb in size causes window program to generate a message
that says that sexyz has encountered a problem and needs to close. It does not
crash windows or the board, it does leave the caller hanging. As soon as caller
closes browser, it recycles and all is ready to go again. It might take some
callers 4 or 5 times to get a file downloaded. Zmodem clients remember where
the download left off. Thanks for all the help.

Well, more importantly, you haven't actually changed your revision of sexyz that is crashing in your test case. Please update your revision of sexyz to the lateset and greatest (from sbbs_dev.zip).

If you want to try downloading a large file again from Vertrauen, please do. I'll give you the 'T' exemption, so you should have no time limit now.
