Windows to Linux

I did a test migration of my BBS from Windows 10 to Linux, and it went
pretty well. I created an Ubuntu 24.04 LTS server VM, followed the
instructions to install via GIT, and got a fresh system up and running.
I copied my \ctrl folder over and was pleased to see how many places the
file location was specified as a relative location (../ctrl) instead of
c:\sbbs\ctrl.
I hard coded a couple of references in my menus, needed to clean those
up.
Copied the \data folder and was able to read messages online.
I didn't configure dosemu, I don't have any DOS utilities around. I
should consider it for running nodelist utilities - those are the only
DOS tools I have left over.
I've run Synchronet in Windows for 20 years, and ran Maximus for another
5+ years before that, old habits die hard. I do like having the ability
to move the BBS to a Linux VPS some time, and I'm playing with tmux to
set things up just so.

Yeah, I think Synchronet runs pretty well in Linux. I moved mine from Windows to Linux 3 years ago after running it in Windows since 2007. Also, since moving my BBS to Linux, I've set it up to run as a service so that it runs in the background like any other service, which I think is pretty cool.

No DOS door games on your BBS?

If you're referring to 'makenl', it has a linux-native version.

No, not enough callers to keep them going. I have the javascript games that are in the ../xtrn directory and point the other games to bbslink, where I hope there are more callers.

Absolutely no need for DOS tools. MakeNL can be snagged and compiled from git just like Synchronet, and voila.. a linux native nodelist compiler!
Other than that, what other DOS nodelist utilities do you need?

Great! That's pretty much all I need.
