I have seen $10-11 12-pack soft drinks here. That has been the going rate at Kroger now for at least 2 years. :( At Walmart they've been $7-8 per 12-pack for a while, unless you are buying the house brand.

Some grocery prices are getting crazy high. I'm surprised they're selling soda 12-packs for that much. Kroger owns some grocery stores in my area (which were formerly local chains) and that sounds a bit right - And they're one of the more expensive grocery stores for some things. They also have their own store-brand sodas which tend to be a lot cheaper (I bought a 12-pack of Diet Dr. K from them for $4.50 not too long ago, but the price may have gone up since then). If I buy soda, I've been buying house brand lately since it tends to be significantly less expensive (what name-brand soda used to cost). Sometimes I'll buy some soda from Costco because I think it's fairly good for the price.

Soda isn't a basic necessity, and I find it hard to justify spending $10 for a 12-pack of soda..

I never buy "packs", I stick to 2-litre bottles. Much more economical. If I want to carry pop with me, I'll use a 20-ounce bottle I got from a vending machine and fill that up from the 2-litre. You can get three 20-ouncers with change left over.

over by me it's cheaper to buy the cans instead of the bottles of SODA.
there are deals sometimes for the six packs, but not often.

For me locally, the more reasonable source would be Walmart or, possibly, Save-A-Lot. I don't go there often because they don't stock a lot of things and their produce is usually too close-dated.

Soda isn't a basic necessity, and I find it hard to justify spending $10 for a

That was the example being discussed. Other items have doubled in price, too, and unlike promised, they've not gone down at all since Biden left office. The only exception here locally is gasoline, which did go back well down before recently going back up higher than when Biden left office.

This reminds me of a discussion I had with friends regarding the costs of videogames as a hobby.

Every gaming hardware manufacturer started driving prices up like crazy citing "evolving market conditions", tariffs and RAM prices. The issue is prices went up and when the circumpstances that supposedly lead to the increases disappeared, they never normalized down again.

This concept is known as "price stickyness" and the gist of it is that when Nintendo finds out you are willing to pay 500 dollar for their new toy, they are not going to bill you less unless there is a lot of presure to do so.

Also, fiat currencies these days are being dragged through the mud by banks, reserves and governments so there is no wonder companies won't sell you anything in exchange of worthless paper, unless it is a lot of worthless paper. You could buy a house today for the same amount of gold you would have needed in ancient Rome, but around here you need 60% more worthless paper than 10 years ago.

Well sounds like it's not the same thing that we were talking about.
Obviously a place that is a huge complex is different from the small
gas station we were making fun of.

food deserts(like no good place to get groceries) combined with a company focused on making these giant gas stations successful.

Well sounds like it's not the same thing that we were talking about. Obviously a place that is a huge complex is different from the small

yeah i wouldn't go to a bodega or whatever for sushi.

I'm always amused by the truck stops along some of the interstate
freeways in the US. There's one on the road between San Francisco/San
Jose and Los Angeles that has a massive store, with a whole CB radio
department, trucker amphetamines and other sketchy pills, a couple of
restaurants and a hilarious selection of gifts for the lady back home -
cheesy lingerie, cheap champagne and plastic-wrapped cheap roses...

We have one of those type Gas stations between Salt Lake City and Tooele Utah, Called T&A Truckstop, they have Truck ad on's, a full line of CB radios and antena's, Clothing and much more.
And there's a Flying J Truckstop close by that.
It seems like most of the trucker traffic goes to T&A rather than flying J.
